Content & Review Moderation Policy

How QuoteFinder.ca reviews, moderates, removes, and handles disputes about user/provider content and reviews

Quick summary: QuoteFinder.ca may moderate, hide, remove, restrict, or review content (including reviews, profile content, messages, quotes, attachments, and listings) to keep the platform safe, accurate, lawful, and useful. We may take action for spam, fraud, abuse, misleading claims, privacy violations, illegal content, and other policy violations. We may also review moderation decisions upon request.

1. Purpose of this policy

This Content & Review Moderation Policy explains how QuoteFinder.ca (“QuoteFinder.ca”, “we”, “us”, or “our”) handles moderation of content submitted to or displayed on the platform.

Our goal is to support a trustworthy marketplace while balancing user expression, fairness, safety, platform integrity, and legal compliance.

2. Scope of content covered

This policy may apply to content submitted, uploaded, sent, or displayed on QuoteFinder.ca, including:

  • consumer reviews and ratings;
  • provider profile content (bios, credentials, service descriptions, images, logos);
  • quote/bid submissions and quote-related text;
  • messages between users and providers (where available);
  • attachments, documents, and images;
  • support tickets, complaints, and dispute submissions;
  • comments, feedback, and survey responses;
  • other user-generated or provider-generated content on the Platform.

3. Why moderation exists

We moderate content to help prevent and reduce:

  • fraud, impersonation, and deceptive claims;
  • harassment, abuse, threats, and hate content;
  • spam, scam attempts, and platform abuse;
  • privacy violations and improper sharing of personal information;
  • illegal, unlawful, or prohibited content;
  • misleading reviews, fake reviews, and review manipulation;
  • malware, malicious links, and unsafe attachments;
  • content that undermines the reliability of the marketplace.

Moderation is not endorsement

Publishing or leaving content visible on QuoteFinder.ca does not mean we endorse, verify, or guarantee every statement made by users or providers.

4. Types of moderation actions

Depending on the content, risk, and context, QuoteFinder.ca may take one or more of the following actions:

  • allow content with no action;
  • delay publication pending review;
  • request clarification, edits, or supporting information;
  • mask or redact sensitive information;
  • hide content from public view;
  • remove content entirely;
  • limit visibility or distribution;
  • disable attachments or links;
  • restrict account features related to content posting;
  • issue warnings or apply account enforcement under trust & safety rules.

5. How moderation decisions may be made

Moderation decisions may be based on automated signals, user reports, staff review, trust & safety review, legal/compliance review, or a combination of these methods.

We may consider factors such as:

  • policy violations or likely policy violations;
  • severity and risk of harm;
  • credibility of reports or evidence provided;
  • repeat behavior or patterns of abuse;
  • whether the issue appears intentional or accidental;
  • context, relevance, and marketplace impact;
  • legal or regulatory obligations.

6. Reviews and ratings policy (consumer and provider feedback)

QuoteFinder.ca may permit reviews, ratings, or feedback related to provider interactions, quote experiences, or platform experiences. Reviews should be honest, relevant, and based on real experiences.

6.1 Reviews we generally allow

  • good-faith opinions and experience-based feedback;
  • factual descriptions of response time, communication, and professionalism;
  • constructive criticism stated respectfully;
  • follow-up updates to a review when circumstances change.

6.2 Reviews that may be removed or restricted

We may remove, hide, or decline reviews that include or appear to involve:

  • fake, fabricated, or purchased reviews;
  • reviews submitted by the provider about themselves (or their staff) without clear disclosure;
  • review manipulation, coercion, or incentive abuse;
  • harassment, threats, hate speech, or abusive language;
  • defamation, knowingly false accusations, or unsupported serious allegations presented as fact;
  • private/personal information (phone numbers, emails, account numbers, addresses, etc.);
  • off-topic political/ideological commentary unrelated to the service experience;
  • spam, repeated duplicate reviews, or promotional content;
  • illegal content or content that violates another person’s rights;
  • content copied from other sites without permission.

Important

We may remove or redact parts of a review (for example, personal information or abusive language) without removing the entire review where partial moderation is appropriate.

7. Provider profile and quote content moderation

Providers are responsible for the accuracy and legality of profile content, quotes, claims, and communications. QuoteFinder.ca may moderate provider content for quality, safety, legal, and trust reasons.

Examples of provider content that may be restricted or removed include:

  • misleading licensing or credential claims;
  • false guarantees (e.g., guaranteed savings/approval) without lawful basis;
  • deceptive pricing or bait-style quotes;
  • unauthorized use of logos, trademarks, or third-party branding;
  • harassing or inappropriate messaging to clients;
  • attempts to bypass platform communication or billing rules in prohibited ways;
  • malicious links or unsafe attachments.

8. Privacy, redaction, and sensitive information handling

QuoteFinder.ca may redact, mask, or remove content that contains personal, confidential, or sensitive information where publication or sharing would create privacy, legal, or safety risk.

This may include (without limitation):

  • phone numbers and personal email addresses (where restricted by platform workflow);
  • home addresses and exact location details;
  • government ID numbers or licensing numbers where not appropriate for public display;
  • financial account information or payment details;
  • medical or highly sensitive personal details not needed for the marketplace workflow;
  • personal information about third parties who did not consent to disclosure.

9. Reports and complaints about content

Users, providers, and other affected parties may report content they believe violates platform rules, legal requirements, or this policy.

Reports are more helpful when they include:

  • a link, screenshot, or clear description of the content;
  • why the content is problematic;
  • what policy issue is involved (if known);
  • supporting evidence or context (if available).

Submitting a report does not guarantee removal, but we may review and act where appropriate.

10. No obligation to publish or keep all content

QuoteFinder.ca is not obligated to publish every submitted review or user-generated content item. We may refuse, delay, limit, or remove content at our discretion where permitted by law to protect users, the marketplace, and platform integrity.

We may also preserve internal copies of moderated or removed content for audit, trust & safety, fraud prevention, legal, or dispute-handling purposes.

11. Moderation timing and priority

Moderation review times can vary depending on volume, risk, and complexity. We may prioritize content that appears to involve:

  • immediate safety concerns;
  • fraud or impersonation;
  • privacy/data exposure;
  • legal requests or court/regulatory matters;
  • malware, phishing, or technical platform abuse.

Some content may remain visible during review; other content may be temporarily hidden while a review is ongoing.

12. Appeals and requests for re-review

If you believe your content was moderated in error (for example, hidden, removed, or restricted incorrectly), you may contact support and request a re-review.

To support a re-review request, include:

  • your account email and role (client/provider/org admin);
  • the content in question (or a link/screenshot);
  • what moderation action occurred;
  • why you believe the action was incorrect;
  • any supporting evidence or clarification.

We may uphold, revise, or reverse the moderation decision after review.

Review corrections

In some cases, QuoteFinder.ca may allow edited or resubmitted content (for example, a review with removed personal information or a profile claim corrected for accuracy) instead of permanent removal.

13. Legal requests and rights-related complaints

QuoteFinder.ca may review and respond to legal or rights-related complaints regarding content, including complaints involving privacy, defamation allegations, intellectual property, impersonation, fraud, or unlawful content.

We may request additional documentation before taking action, especially where a complaint involves disputed facts between parties.

QuoteFinder.ca may remove or restrict content without prior notice where required by law or where urgent risk is reasonably believed to exist.

14. Repeat abuse and account-level enforcement

Repeated posting of prohibited content, review manipulation, harassment, spam, or other content abuse may result in account-level enforcement actions, including warnings, feature restrictions, suspension, or permanent removal.

For more details, see our Trust & Safety Enforcement / Policy Violations policy.

15. Platform discretion and policy updates

Moderation standards may evolve as platform features, abuse patterns, legal requirements, and marketplace needs change. QuoteFinder.ca may update this policy and related content rules from time to time.

When this page is updated, we will post the revised version and update the “Last updated” date below.
