Trust & Safety Enforcement / Policy Violations

How warnings, suspensions, and removals work

Summary: QuoteFinder.ca may issue warnings, remove content, restrict features, suspend accounts, or permanently remove accounts when platform rules, safety standards, or applicable laws are violated. Enforcement decisions are based on severity, risk, repeat behavior, and available evidence.

Purpose of this policy

This page explains how QuoteFinder.ca handles policy violations and trust & safety concerns. Our goal is to keep the marketplace safe, fair, and reliable for consumers and agents while using a consistent and proportionate enforcement process.

We may take action against content, quotes, messages, profiles, or accounts that create risk to users or undermine the integrity of the platform.

Why enforcement exists

We enforce platform rules to help prevent:

  • Misleading quotes, false claims, or deceptive representations
  • Harassment, abusive conduct, or threatening behavior
  • Spam, automation abuse, or repeated unsolicited contact
  • Privacy violations or improper sharing of personal information
  • Fraud, impersonation, or identity misrepresentation
  • Attempts to bypass platform workflows, fees, or access controls
  • Unsafe, illegal, or prohibited activity connected to platform use

Types of enforcement actions

Depending on the severity of the issue, prior history, and risk level, QuoteFinder.ca may apply one or more of the actions below.

1) Warning (educational or formal)

A warning is commonly used for first-time or lower-risk issues. Warnings may be educational (reminder-style) or formal (policy violation notice).

A warning may include:

  • what policy or rule was violated
  • what behavior or content must stop
  • what correction is required (if applicable)
  • what may happen if the issue happens again

Warnings may be issued even if no further action is taken at that time.

2) Content or activity removal

We may remove, hide, block, or disable specific content or actions that violate policy, including (for example):

  • quote submissions
  • profile details
  • messages or attachments
  • public-facing listing or directory content
  • other marketplace submissions or interactions

This may happen with or without a prior warning, especially when the content creates user risk or legal/compliance concerns.

3) Temporary feature restrictions

In some situations, we may limit only part of an account’s access instead of fully suspending the account.

Examples of restrictions may include:

  • inability to submit new quotes for a period of time
  • messaging disabled or limited
  • no access to selected marketplace features
  • temporary pause on receiving quote requests
  • additional verification required before continuing

This is often used when an issue appears correctable (for example, incomplete verification, repeated policy reminders ignored, or suspicious activity under review).

4) Temporary suspension

A temporary suspension disables access to some or all platform functions for a set period or until a review is completed.

We may use temporary suspension when:

  • there are repeated violations after warnings
  • a serious complaint requires investigation
  • identity, licensing, or account ownership must be verified
  • behavior appears deceptive, abusive, or high-risk

During suspension, certain records may remain visible or retained to preserve transaction history, dispute handling, audit logs, fraud prevention, or legal compliance.

5) Permanent removal (account termination)

Permanent removal may be applied for severe or repeated violations, including but not limited to:

  • fraud or attempted fraud
  • impersonation or identity misuse
  • serious harassment, threats, or abusive conduct
  • repeated deceptive behavior or false claims
  • deliberate policy circumvention
  • major privacy or safety violations
  • illegal activity connected to platform use

If an account is removed, access may be revoked and future account creation may also be restricted.

How we decide what action to take

Enforcement decisions are context-based. Not every violation is treated the same, and we consider the facts available at the time of review.

Factors may include:

  • severity of the conduct or content
  • risk to consumers, agents, or the platform
  • whether the behavior appears intentional or accidental
  • pattern of repeat behavior
  • prior warnings or prior enforcement history
  • supporting evidence (reports, messages, logs, metadata, attachments)
  • whether the issue was corrected promptly after notice
  • urgency (for example, immediate safety or fraud concerns)

Important

A first-time formatting mistake is not treated the same as intentional deception or abusive conduct. Severity and risk matter.

Immediate action without prior warning

We may remove content, restrict features, suspend an account, or take other immediate action without prior warning if we reasonably believe there is urgent risk, including:

  • safety concerns
  • fraud indicators
  • impersonation or identity misuse
  • serious harassment or threats
  • privacy or data misuse
  • large-scale spam, automation abuse, or circumvention attempts

When possible, we will provide notice after the action is taken.

Reports, complaints, and investigations

Reviews may begin based on:

  • user reports
  • internal monitoring signals
  • complaints from another party
  • verification checks
  • unusual activity patterns
  • evidence submitted during a support request or dispute

During a review, we may:

  • request clarification or supporting documents
  • temporarily limit features
  • remove or hide specific content
  • pause account activity while the review is ongoing

Failure to respond to verification or compliance requests may result in restrictions, suspension, or removal.

Repeated violations and escalation

Repeated violations usually lead to stronger enforcement over time.

A typical escalation path may be:

  1. reminder or warning
  2. feature restriction
  3. temporary suspension
  4. permanent removal

Severe violations may skip one or more steps.

Appeals and review requests

If you believe an enforcement action was made in error, you may contact support and request a review.

To help us review your case faster, include:

  • the email address associated with your account
  • the enforcement action you are appealing
  • a short explanation of what happened
  • supporting evidence (screenshots, documents, timestamps, context)

Appeals are reviewed using platform records and available evidence. Submitting multiple duplicate appeals does not speed up review.

What happens to existing quotes, requests, and records

To preserve marketplace integrity, fraud prevention, dispute handling, and operational records:

  • some records may remain stored even if content is hidden or an account is suspended
  • completed transaction history may be retained
  • access to certain records may be limited during an investigation
  • retention may continue where required for legal, security, or compliance reasons

This does not mean removed content remains publicly visible.

No guarantee of warning first

While we often use warnings for lower-risk issues, QuoteFinder.ca does not guarantee a warning before enforcement action.

Use of the platform is subject to our Terms, marketplace rules, and Trust & Safety standards. We reserve the right to take reasonable action to protect users, the marketplace, and the public.

Good standing tips (for agents and users)

  • Provide accurate and complete information
  • Keep profile, licensing, and business details current (if applicable)
  • Communicate respectfully and professionally
  • Avoid misleading pricing, guarantees, or promises
  • Do not share restricted personal contact information where platform rules prohibit it
  • Do not attempt to bypass platform fees, protections, or workflows
  • Respond promptly to support, verification, or compliance requests
